Marxian, not Marxist

I believe it is possible to appreciate the significance of Marx's critique of the workings of capitalism without necessarily believing in his ideological prescription for political change. This certainly seems to be a reasonable position to adopt in retrospect, after repeated experiments with social revolution by violent means have proved disastrous in the 20th century, usually degenerating into hypocrisy and authoritarianism. But his critique of capitalism remains very relevant today with the present model of economics proving to be a strain on the planet's resources,  while also breeding inequality and social tension.  One who sees  Marx's economic theories of capitalism as important, while eschewing the Communist Manifesto, is known as a Marxian, as opposed to being Marxist.
