Quite so often, my friends have accused me of being too intolerant of ignorance.
Typical defence of ignorant people runs along the usual lines : "He means well, he is just naive", or "He does not intend to do harm, he is just misguided."
Comments like these illustrate my point very much. Ignorance as an idea may be more benign than malice, but the consequences can often be as dangerous. Nor does hatred of ignorance imply malice against individuals.
Social reformers and progressive thinkers have often had to fight lifelong jihads against ignorance. Hatred of ignorance is very much a positive purgatory force in my book.
